A crazy plan
By
Phyllis
I was going to get on this morning and post photos, but now I might be running off to Kiev! Crazy, eh? My "little brother," Timothy, has been on a missions trip near Kiev. He finally had a chance to contact us, and if I'm going to meet up with him, I'd have to go to Kiev in the next few days! So, I think I'm going to go to Zaporozhye this afternoon to try to get a ticket. If there are tickets available, I'll get on a train tonight....
Pray that it works out, please!

"Embracing summer"
By
Phyllis
421. Another heat wave breaking, just when I feel like I can't take any more hot weather
422. Swimming!
423. Evening swims
224. An apartment so close to the water
425. Watering day at the dacha after a month without: we can take showers again!
426. An elderly couple out hanging laundry together (I just happened to glance out the window and see them. He's holding the tub of wet sheets and pulling the clothesline down a little for her; she's using clothespins from a string around her neck to hang up what he hands to her.)
427. Rain
428. Rain
429. Lots of rain this summer!
430. Everything is still green
431. . . . and not burning

I just realized...
By

...how long it's been since I've written. Sorry! We're alive and well and busy. I'll just say that my excuse is that it's too hot to sit at the computer these days.

Sage!
By
Phyllis
Last year Will bought me sage seeds from a babushka at the market. I planted them, and they came up beautifully: thick, green, fuzzy little plants.
Then, this year they came back, MASSIVE! Could it really be sage?
The plants are pretty, but I was disappointed not to have sage for cooking. I looked all through our books, and searched the internet, and still couldn't figure out what my flowers were. Then, I wrote to the man who owns this beautiful website, and he identified it right away: clary sage!

Please let us know if you want to be notified by email when we post these quarterly letters, or if you know someone who would like to get them by regular mail. Thanks!
(I was going to use this photo, and then decided not to, but I just couldn't leave it off!)
